Who is responsible for insuring transported goods?
1) The seller ? 2) The buyer ? 3) The shipping agent ?
You should always know who is responsible for insuring the goods you are buying/selling.
Please remember that the shipping or forwarding agent does not insure your goods automatically. The instructions to insure goods must come directly from the client. Therefore the seller or the buyer of goods must agree between themselves who will be responsible for insuring the goods within their ‘Terms of Sale’, just as they do with the freight charges. For help in this matter we highly recommend you speak with our own insurance department or go on line and view INCOTERMS 2010.
We know that the occasional mishap can occur, and your goods don’t make it to the final destination exactly as they should. Road accidents and more increasingly thefts by organised gangs from vehicles ‘en route’ etc are a real cause for concern.
We are pleased to advise that these are very rare occurrences; however they do happen, so for complete peace of mind we strongly recommend you MARINE INSURE your goods for the full journey.
Don’t assume someone else is insuring your goods during transit, as the financial consequences could be disastrous!
The shipping or forwarding company’s liabilities are limited and are always within their trading terms and conditions.
Therefore please make sure all your goods are fully insured for transport.
